On June 11, the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in New York hosted a formal reception in celebration of Russia Day, welcoming distinguished guests from the diplomatic, cultural, and business communities. Among those in attendance were heads and members of consular missions from friendly nations accredited in New York, representatives of the United Nations Secretariat, members of the Russian diaspora, clergy, media professionals, business leaders, and American public figures.
During his address, Consul General Alexander G. Markov with Mrs. Ekaterina Markov congratulated the guests on the national holiday and noted that 2026 has been declared the Year of the Unity of the Peoples of Russia.
He emphasized that the celebration reflects the country’s enduring traditions, bringing together people of many nationalities and faiths while preserving its core values. He also highlighted Russia’s achievements in defense, science, culture, and the arts, stating that the nation’s greatest strength remains its multinational people.
As part of the evening’s program, Consul General Markov presented awards to the winners and finalists of the Total Dictation 2026 educational initiative.
Guests also viewed a special Russia Day video message from the Russian crew aboard the International Space Station. The cultural program featured lively performances by students from the School of the Permanent Mission of Russia to the United Nations, while acclaimed opera soprano Vita Koreneva captivated the audience with her performance.
An exhibition showcasing Russian folk art, alongside photo and video presentations highlighting Russia’s rich cultural heritage, attracted considerable interest among international guests. The evening concluded with a traditional Russian reception featuring authentic national cuisine and classic desserts.
